The International Society for Krsna Consciousness known as the Hare Krsna movement, is relatively young in the West, but its roots go far back to the time of the old Indian (Vedic) advanced civilization having its climax five thousand years ago. ISKCON is a cultural and religious movement giving people the possibility to know the Vedic science, to study it and to apply it. It represents the traditional Vedic culture and religion thus offering mankind a practicable solution for the problems of our time. In 1966, the movement was founded by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Svami Prabhupada in New York. In his last years he opened 108 centres in 49 countries and wrote simultaneously more than 50 books with translations and comments of the Vedic scriptures. Today the International Society for Krsna consciousness has more than 700 centres, farm communities, schools and restaurants, and the community has millions of members. |
